More women on the bike; that is the ultimate goal of professional cyclists and ambassadors of women’s cycling. Marianne Vos, Loes Gunnewijk, Marijn de Vries and Roxane Knetemann together with Le Tour Utrecht they have launched, at Bike Motion, a new and unique international programme called ‘We Own Yellow, Take The Stage’. It is a programme that will encourage more women to get onto the bike or develop themselves and their cycling further.

The ‘We Own Yellow’ programme consists of led-rides, beginners and development courses, social nights, events, training programmes and training tips all leading up to the biggest event of the programme; The We own yellow festival. This will be one weekend after the start of the Tour de France on 12th July in Utrecht with the aim that women from around the world get together to take over the city and colour Utrecht yellow for one day to celebrate that women’s cycling is alive and growing every day.

In the morning there will be three rides for women. They can choose 45, 85 or 145 kilometres. In the afternoon, there is a creative cycling festival filled with art, culture, music, fashion and everything related to cycling. Men are also more than welcome to come along. It will be the afterparty of the Tour de France Utrecht.

Marianne Vos said: “We wanted to create something for women of all levels around the world so we can encourage them to start cycling or let them develop further in cycling. We didn’t want to have just one event but a few events, programmes, courses and socials so we can build their confidence and make women as prepared as possible on the bike. We want them to connect with each other and share their passion for cycling. We want to make the festival on 12th July as big as possible so we get more women onto the bike, but we can’t do this alone, we will also ask for the help of men to get their female friends, colleagues or family members on the bike. So everybody sign-up for the festival on 12th July and help us to take over Utrecht!”
